Peliminary works of Thousand Big Buddha project has started in Dharan. The project was designed two years ago with an aim to promote tourism of eastern region.
The project is initiated by Federation of Nepali society in Hong Kong. Chairman of the federation Pradeep Thapa Magar registered a project office under the name of Suryodaya Buddha Bihar, Dharan and initiated the project works. The project has started making sample of Buddha temple, 3D construction and design works.
As per the design, Buddha’s statue will be 175 feet tall. A separate Buddha philosophy study center will also be constructed along with the statue which will cost around 90 crores.
Similarly, 10 thousand small Buddha statues will also be constructed which will cost nearly 8 crores. Suryodaya Buddha Bihar aims to collect funds from people and have said that they will not ask for any financial assistance from the government.
